Boston Chapter Board Positions


Roles & Responsibilities

The Board of Directors plays an integral role in growing and engaging the Boston Chapter. They volunteer their time to manage day-to-day business functions, organize inspiring events for chapter members, and continuously motivate women and girls interested in aviation.

*Please note that while these positions are volunteer roles, they do require a time commitment and professional responsibility. In addition to general membership events, the board of directors meets every other month and may be more at the discretion of the team. This year’s elected officers will serve from January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025.

    • Have and guide general charge of Chapter business. Perform all actions to keep the chapter running.

    • Monitors work of all other board members and ensures each member is fulfilling their outlined duties.

    • Prepare agenda and lead all meetings of members and all meetings of the board

    • Jointly execute all checks authorized by the board with the treasurer

    • Send communication to all members of the chapter regarding important chapter business not covered by membership or program chairs

    • Delegates duties to any of the chapter officers

    • Shall exercise all the powers, authority and duties of the President during the absence or disability of the President 

    • The treasurer and the president and/or Vice President shall jointly execute all checks authorized by the board

    • Serves on the Outreach, Fundraising, and Girls in Aviation Day Committees

    • Organizes chapter’s attendance of the Women in Aviation International Conference

    • Keep the minutes of all proceedings of the chapter (board and membership meetings), including attendance.

    • Maintains records for the chapter

    • Having minutes available on request for anyone within 48 hours of meetings. Upload meeting minutes to the Google Drive

    • Sends quarterly update submission to Women in Aviation International to be featured in the Aviation for Women Magazine

    • Updates board member information with the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  • •      Must be at least 18 years of age

    •      The treasurer with the President and/or Vice President shall jointly execute all checks authorized by the board

    •      Receive and deposit all funds for the organization in the WAI Boston Chapter Bank

    •      Keep all financial records

    •      Complete organization’s tax forms to include a 990N to the IRS, MA Attorney General, and Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

    •      Provide the president with a written itemized report on the organizations’ finances, for each meeting

    •      Serve on the fundraising committee

  • •     Lead the membership committee to plan a membership recruitment event, membership events, and ensuring the Boston Chapter members see the value of their membership.

    •      Provide recommendations to the Board for at least one annual membership recruitment event.

    •      Maintain accurate membership records, and shall ensure that all Chapter members are also WAI members.

    •      Keep track of membership applications through the Cheddar Up platform and work with the Treasurer to collect and keep track of membership dues.

    •      Send an email to welcome each new member and ensure they are added to the chapter newsletter.

    •      Monitor dues expiration dates monthly and reach out to members prior to their membership lapsing.

    • Chair of the Outreach Committee to oversee professional outreach, youth outreach, and ad-hoc outreach events.

    • Helps the chapter serve the community with at least one community service project or event each year (excluding Girls in Aviation Day)

    • Shall provide recommendations to the Board for at least one annual educational or mentoring outreach project

    • Serves on the Girls in Aviation Day planning committee

  • •      Responsible for updating and providing chapter information on social media platforms not limited to but including Instagram and Facebook

    •      Work with other board members to obtain information to share about upcoming membership and outreach events

    •      Monitor Women in Aviation International’s social media for pertinent content to share with the local membership

    •      Document all the chapter activities by taking pictures or appointing another member to take pictures. Keep all photos organized on google drive for future use

    •      Oversee the creating of displays to showcase the chapter at events

    •      Manages the website to reflect the most up to date information for the chapter
